Norman North grad and OU super freshman, Trae Young was drafted by the Dallas Mavericks at #5 overall then traded to the Atlanta Hawks. Young made a big splash at Norman North in high school ending his incredible career at #11 on the Oklahoma High School ALL-TIME Boys Basketball Scoring list.

Then Young made an even BIGGER SPLASH at the University of Oklahoma becoming the only player to ever lead the country in scoring (27.5 ppg) AND assists (8.7 apg) in the same year. Yes EVER!
Now he is an Atlanta Hawk and he is determined to make an even bigger splash in the NBA. But, he probably isn't the most anticipated Rookie Hawk ever. That may go to "Pistol" Pete Maravich. Maravich was drafted by the Hawks #3 overall in 1970 (behind Bob Lanier and Rudy Tomjahnovich). Maravich played 83 games in his NCAA career at LSU and averaged 44.2 points per game! Yes, that's right, I said AVERAGED and CAREER. And yes, that is #1 ALL-TIME in NCAA History and that was BEFORE the 3-point line.
As a Hawk, he played 4 years and averaged 24.3 ppg and played 302 games. He also dished out 5.6 assists per game leading his Hawks to the playoffs 3 of those 4 years. He was traded to the New Orleans Jazz after the 1973-74 season. Pete led the league in scoring in the 1976-77 season with a 31.1 ppg average. Maravich played 11 seasons in the NBA but knee problems cut his career short. His first nine seasons he was near the top of the league every year in minutes played and points scored.
Good luck and hopefully great success to the much anticipated Hawk but Mr Young, you have some big shoes to follow way back from the past...
